Completed the transfer to 08. No problems so far. Have compared all
balances to the UK05 and they match. Downloaded NatWest file and
imported it into 08 - again, no problems. Investment prices are
updating very fast as well.
Only issue I have is that the investment price history is not
transferred. Pity, I do miss this.

I think the lack of securities price history you have experienced is because
you had to import QIFs. For anyone who has been able to do the direct update
of an 04UK datafile into 08USA I can confirm that it definitely does retain
the history, both for prices pulled down by automatic update and also for
those entered manually.
Continued good luck with the QIF import: you have more patience than I!!!!
But I certainly admit that to being the less risky way, and unless I can get
fully comfortable in the next four weeks through others' and my testing of
the auto-updated file I'm going to have to join you in undertaking that
painful process...

Is there a way to use a UK05 file in uk04 apart from, as suggested
here, use a last 04 backup and re-enter all to date!?!
I have not found out why Microsoft will not sell US version overseas
when the product clearly supports most of the functionality in a
currency other than US.

Sorry no known way.
Reason MS will not sell US version outside USA, is that it is heavily
localized for US fiscal rules, in particular, capital gains and also things
called 401K.
Their legal people will not take the risk that someone might sue if they
relied on the capital gains rules (US style) and got hammered by the local
Taxation authorities. Also the various help files are aimed at the US tax
system so are completely irrelevant/wrong for a non-US user.

That sounds reasonable. I guess they cannot stop a visitor to US
buying a copy and using at their own risk outside US. Getting a copy
this way - do you know if there is an activation issue?

There have been reports in the main NG of Canadians (who have similar
restrictions) giving a fake US address - don't recommend using 1600
Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC. - for downloading. Activation
shouldn't be a problem but I can't guarantee that! Caveat emptor!

can you expand on the 1600 Pennsylvania bit please? I guess I can get
a US cousin to download and post it to me! Nothing to loose
considering 2005 is at an end so to speak

Like Bob, can't guarantee on the activation issue, but I've successfully
done it from the UK on Money Plus. It's done online.

Banking->AccountTools->Categories&Payees->Categories. Select
a category that you want to be rid of and click Delete or Move at
the bottom. If you are using the category, Money will ask what
category you want those transactions reassigned to.
You can also use Shortcuts.... to create a Categories icon at the
top. |

Have been runing US 08 for a while now. All downloaded bank statement
details import without a problem. The share proces updates smoothly as
well.
One strange problem - the Bills catagory is now shown as "Automobile"
in the catogory dropdown menu. In the Reports this reverts back to
Bills. Is there a way to edit catogories please? The sub-catagories
seem to be ok. |

Many thanks for this. Saved me a lot of hassle! I think I have now
fine tuned 08 for UK use. BTW you were absolutely right about
importing the accounts in one go. I did not appreciate what you said
earlier until I looked at my reports and it had zillions of
unallocated entries!!
I then redid the exercise and imported all in one go. I actually
opened new accounts in 08 for all the 05 UK ones + 05 closed ones.
This way in importing them I did not have to think and create new
ones. I also got the Stock symbols from the 05 so I could insert them
as I went. For a good measure I created dummy accounts as well just in
case I needed to post unexpected entries - which I had to in about 3
to 4 cases. All entries were allocated but I went through all the
accounts to make sure they agreed to 05 ones (using Net Worth report
etc.).
Now the test is to run it side by side with 05 to see how well it
copes. I think there is not likely to be problem.

Hi there
I am still using quicken (just) but need to switch at last. I also live
outside of the UK and have a large investment portfolio that is biased
towards the UK. Based on your experiences, would you suggest that I use the
new 2008 Uk package of Money, or the new US version.
Thanks

There isn't an UK version of Money 2008. However the US version will work
but has things like "check" and "401K".
You should be able to get LSE share prices OK however.
