Money 2005? Are you sure you are installing the same or later version of
Money as the file you are trying to open was written by?

The version of Money installed must be as new or newer than the
version that made the file. Some versions give a bogus password
indication when the real problem is that the Money file is from a
version of Money that is newer than the installed version.

Money 2005 is a special case. Either open the sample.mny file in
your install folder, or let Money 2005 create a new Money file,
clicking Decline in the process. It will do an update. Close
Money. Then open Money and check that Help->About... says you then
have version 14.0.*.1105.

Then you should be able to open or restore your existing files.
