For various reasons I am looking to import a Quicken 98 file into MS
Money 2000. Money asks me for an updated converter on the Money
website. I can't find it there as the automated download failed -
presumably as it is no longer a supported product.

Do you have the original Money 2000 CD?

Money 2000 was not shipped with a host of faults (bar the UKpence issue) and
should not require anything newer than Money 2000 to import Quicken 98,
Quicken 99, Money 98 or Money 99 etc.
Whilst you are invited to register Money 2000 with Microsoft, you don't have
to do so. Unlike more recent versions that won't work unless you 'report
home' on installation, Money 2000 will work 'stand-alone' and can still be
set to accept share price downloads.

If your installation worked properly you should see in C:/ Program Files /
Microsoft Money / System / Q2MNY.DLL (The Microsoft Quicken to Money
Converter) This file is 173Kb if you have Version 8.0.14.1015

Thank you. I have File Version 8.0.14.0921 so perhaps it is older -
can you e-mail me the newer version if you have it so I can try that.
I do have the CD too. I did eventually find the UKpence issue patch on
the internet and have installed this. The message comes up from Money
when I try to do the import and it then fails.

My version MSMONEY.EXE is also 8.0.14.1015 and it is definitely the UK
Standard version.

It is possible your version is something other than that, perhaps even a USA
version of the program.

An MVP may be able to decode version numbers, but I can't.

Thank you for your help and posting the file. I got a work around in
the end - I downloaded the trial US version, used this to import
Quicken, exported accounts as QIF, imported into Money 2000 and then,
as the caaount by account process is imperfect, put through a series
of adjustments to bring the balances in line. It is mainly used for
investments and to track a few simple bank accounts so this should be
OK.
