I have just fallen foul of the bug with the budget planner. It contains
zombie entries that I deleted from the bills and payments.

They appear in the drop-down menu when edit is selected in budget
planner, cannot be deleted and are not removed when a completely fresh
budget is created.

I have scoured the newsgroup archive and there seems to be plenty of
reports of this bug but I cannot find the answer.

On money.mvps.org I see there is a registry fix for the problem in Money
2002 but is this also valid for Money 2005?

Any answers appreciated.
Thanks

Martin,

My understanding is that the Budget Planner in Money2005 is a 'Lite' version
of previous Budget Planners.
If you can change behaviour by editing the registry, and are comfortable
editing your registry, then it must be worth a try. However I would not
exchange particular files (.dlls?) from different versions of Money - this
could lead to grief.

Good luck

Thanks teabag.

The 2002 registry patch didn't work for my 2004 but a bit more digging
revealed a MS knowledge base article dealing with the bug:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318841 (incidentally this article is
applicable right up to MS Money 2006!)

This method - moving the category and creating it anew - enabled me to
restore budgetary sanity.

The article missed out the important step of moving the transactions
back to the re-created category before deleting the old one but I was
half awake so noticed that omission in time.
All OK again...
